From online gyms to fitness apps, we asked over 4,600 users which products they were particularly happy with. These are the results

There’s something for everyone, whether you’re getting fit with the help of a running app, smartwatch, or digital rowing machine. We have listed the best recommendations from real users for each category. The winners include many well-known brands, but there are also apps and tools you may not have considered before.

The digital fitness advantage

The demand for digital fitness is huge, especially as the coronavirus has meant fewer people around the world are going to the gym regularly or taking advantage of sports offers at clubs. According to the Association of Employers of German Fitness and Health Facilities (DSSV), while in the first year of the pandemic studios in Germany lost around 25 percent of their members, digital fitness offerings posted high growth during the year. same period. If you don’t take the corona pandemic into account, other general advantages of online fitness offers are obvious: You don’t have to drive to the training session first, you save time and travel costs, and you can do sports comfortably at home. However, the motivation is as high as in a studio, since (although far away) you are still in a group and the courses are directed by a trainer.

The results of the survey

Based on a survey of real users, 57 applications, devices or programs from 41 brands in 11 categories were awarded. The apps come from the 6 areas of nutrition, fitness, running, cycling, pedometer, yoga. Online programs surveyed are about fitness or yoga, smart devices are training aids to improve endurance or smart scales. Only with fitness trackers there are no subcategories. In addition to the winners, there are other apps and brands that were rated positively by respondents, but were mentioned relatively infrequently and thus were not included in the final result. Therefore, all of our leaderboards only show the best tools that have been mentioned and rated often enough. The mention in a table represents a clear and positive vote of the people questioned. However, this does not mean that the quality of the brands that are not included in the lists is in question.

In the tables you will find the total score of each brand or application on the far right, which can be a maximum of 4.0. The overall value results from the 4 individual ratings for functionality, ease of use, design, and price. For clarity, individual values are shown as asterisks, a maximum of 5 are possible. Detail values are based on the following gradation: 5 stars were awarded to those whose detail value is above average, which in their time results from the detailed ratings of all award-winning brands or applications in the respective category; There were 4 stars for those with a detail value up to the average value of the award-winning brands or applications in the respective category. Respondents were also able to indicate which criteria are particularly important to them when making purchase decisions. Consequently, the evaluation dimensions of functionality, usability, design and price were weighted in the global result. The position of apps and brands in a table is based on their total scores, listed in descending order. All of the brands named there have achieved above-average overall values, earning the title of “Best Brand for Digital Fitness” or “Best Fitness App.”
