Malterhausen: New fitness parkour on the sports field
Malterhausen. When many people come together, many things can change in the place. A good example of this is the Niedergörsdorf district of Malterhausen. There, members of the local soccer association and firefighters worked closely together to carry out a project that benefits the entire town. On the sports ground where Malterhausener SV is located, the final construction work for the new outdoor fitness parkour away from the pitch in the clubhouse was completed a few days ago. Parkour is open to the public and can now be used by sports fans of all ages. In addition, the initiators also thought about people with disabilities. Certain devices can also be used by wheelchair users. There is also a disabled parking space on site.

Realization through financing, sponsors and personal contribution.
“No one has an excuse anymore. We’ve all gained a few kilos since Corona,” says Ralf Schröter and laughs. The president of the Malterhausen firefighters’ association is proud of the new training corner that he and his colleagues from the firefighters’ association have created together with the footballers of Malterhausener SV and the support of the Niedergörsdorf building authority. The idea of multigenerational space with a focus on “fitness” has been discussed for more than two years. The Malterhausen-based company had been looking for a way to finance its idea for a long time. Then, in 2021, an opportunity suddenly presented itself. “Last year there was the opportunity to request financing from the LAG. In the call at that time, projects were sought that should promote sports activity. Of course, that fit perfectly with our idea”, says Ralf Schröter. A funding request was submitted in March 2021.

The plan to create an inclusive outdoor gym in Malterhausen was well received by sponsors, so the grant notification reached the house on September 7, 2021. The Malterhausen-based company received a total of around 12,000 euros. The equipment of the new fitness parkour cost about 16,000 euros. “We were able to finance our own contribution with funds from both clubs and sponsors,” says Ralf Schröter. Much was also created by the members of Malterhausener SV and the firefighters’ association. For example, the final paving job. Since the start of construction in the fall, there have always been weekend or weekday work assignments. “It went very well. There were always a lot of helpers on the dates,” recalls Ralf Schröter in retrospect.

Thomas Weigel explains the equipment: “They are similar to those in the gym, where guided movements under load are possible.” The vice president of the firefighters’ association trained as a coach and helped select the professional team. “Actually, everything can be trained here. Whether it’s the neck, stomach or back,” says Weigel. The devices are suitable for both beginners and advanced users. Because they can also be equipped with additional weights depending on fitness level. Fall protection mats should also protect the joints.
In addition to the new parkour fitness, the junior fire brigade also got a new practice area where they can optimally prepare for the upcoming competitions. And that should not have been the case at Malterhausen. A circular route around the village has already been partially completed, report Ralf Schröter and Thomas Weigel. It is planned to create various offers for different sports requirements in Malterhausen in order to encourage residents to exercise more. In addition, the clubs hope that the good conditions in the town will allow them to recruit and retain new talent.
