Opening of the Campus Trail at BioPark Regensburg – Regensburger Nachrichten

As a balance, sport and fitness are not only important for university students and employees. Both are possible in the new fitness track of the Bioparque. A real Iron Man was also present at the opening.

In a joint project, the BioPark and the University of Regensburg have launched the Campus Trail with the Techniker Krankenkasse. On the 4.5 km long signposted fitness track you can run, walk and stroll, among other things.

Successful community action

At the beginning of 2018, a corporate health management program was launched at BioPark Regensburg, a company of the city of Regensburg, under the coordination of Techniker Krankenkasse. The “BioBalance – Work & Life @ BioPark” project offers founders, companies and university institutions a wide range of internal exercise and relaxation courses, as well as seminars on topics such as nutrition or stress management. Many actors wanted a permanent fitness path, independent of the course and therefore of time. Together with the “smart moving” university initiative, BioPark and the technicians created the “Campus Trail”. The project was planned together with the sports center of the University of Regensburg. The agencies Communication & Marketing and Prisma Werbung Hans Merkl also participated. The result is a circular signposted route 4.5 km long with a total of eight exercise stations. The circular route includes the entire university campus with the University of Regensburg and the East Bavarian Technical University of Regensburg, passes through the university sports center and has its start and end point at BioPark III.

Festive opening with high-level guests

At the opening ceremony on April 27, the mayor Dr. Astrid Freudenstein, head of the Department of Sport and Leisure of the City of Regensburg and the Vice President of the University Prof. Dr. Susanne Leist greeted. General Director of the Biopark Dr. Thomas Diefenthal and the Techniker Krankenkasse team leader, Michael Reinhold, thanked the BGM working group and showed the sustainable and versatile use of the Campus Trail. “You can jog, walk or just take a walk,” says Diefenthal. “With this career path, we have a great offer for all interested target groups, from students to employees and managers. Fitness has never been so close,” adds Reinhold. Dr. Uta Engels, director of the sports center at the University of Regensburg, designed the Campus Trail and its practice signs as part of the Campus MOBIL and Smart Moving projects. The projects aim to implement more movement in the often sedentary lifestyle of students and employees.

iron man on site

On the topic of motivation, Andreas Nieder gave a short presentation entitled “From Junkie to Ironman!”. He very impressively described the role of sport in his life. With his help, he managed to overcome homelessness, drug addiction and obstacles and become one of the most successful triathletes (Ironman) in the world. For him, sport and health are the basis for a fulfilling and goal-oriented life and thus for professional success in personal responsibility and self-realization.

Refugee charity run

After the inaugural race with Andreas Nieder, the Campus Trail benefited a charitable cause. CampusAsyl and Campus MOBIL university projects organized a fundraiser to support refugees like those currently coming from Ukraine. More information can be found on the BioPark website.
