Realschule Heiligenhaus wants to be fit in the schoolyard

Realschule Heiligenhaus
Introduce movement in short and long pauses

The fitness course planned for the Realschule am Nordring costs a lot of money. Students will help earn the sum in their own way.

(RP/köh) Principal Sonia Cohen speaks of the “current difficult school conditions”. But that is exactly what the city’s Realschule am Nordring wants to accomplish and is tackling the matter with a major project. It starts with a traditional date: on Friday, April 8, there is a sponsored race at the sports facilities in Talburgstraße. It serves both for revenue and advertising purposes.

In the summer of 2022, a course of fitness equipment will be installed in a hitherto little-used portion of the high school yard to provide PE students during breaks and after-school care with the opportunity to get fit and have fun together. A series of questions are answered in advance.

Are there other advantages of the project? Yes. The area below the fitness track will be completely uncovered, meaning the existing closed paving will be removed and replaced with wood chips. This protects against falls from the scaffolding, but above all it is good for groundwater – it can freely penetrate into the ground over a large area and does not drain through channels. This is also good against flooding. A tree in the schoolyard also has more room for its roots and to absorb water. What is installed? An outdoor fitness course from Proludic.

Who came up with the idea? The “Schoolyard Design” group, which is made up of the “Schoolyard Officers”, wanted more sports and play facilities. The schoolyard group is headed by UNESCO teacher Carsten Jansen.

Who is involved in implementation and financing? The city of Heiligenhaus will finance the entire installation. The Heiligenhausen company Krasniqi is responsible for preparing the area and installing the equipment. The school is tasked with covering equipment costs of around 17,000 euros. Some of these funds have been saved. The sponsored race should bring more money into the coffers.
