Sport and relaxation on the fitness trail in Meckenbeur

The leisure equipment attracts with a new route and attractive signage

Meckenbeuren: From the end of May, new signage guides athletes along the fitness trail in the Brugger Wald. At the starting point there is a newly designed information panel that shows the route and the rules for using the facility.

Subsequently, users can train their physical condition on the almost 2-kilometer route. At all 14 stations there are, among other things, the exercises “frog jump”, “push-up”, “balance” and “climbing wall”, which are briefly explained on the posters at the respective stations.

The reason for the redesign was the partial relocation of the maintenance road. This became necessary because the original bridge over a tributary of the Schussen, which had been part of the road, was in ruins and therefore no longer usable. In autumn 2020, the city council decided to dismantle the bridge and voted against a new construction, which would have cost more than €50,000 and would have been subject to complex conditions.

In March 2021, the committee approved the newly developed route, in the course of which two station devices also had to be relocated. No tree felling work was required. The new signage was installed in May of this year.

“The quality of the facility experience has clearly improved,” Mayor Elisabeth Kugel said happily during the inspection in late May. Another plus point: “The route is now completely barrier-free and thus offers citizens with different fitness levels the opportunity to use the facilities and enjoy our beautiful nature in the Brugger Forest. Citizen comments indicate understanding and satisfaction with the implemented solution.”

For this project, the municipality cooperated with Stefan Winter from Winter-Art, who graphically redesigned the signage, and with the state forestry company ForstBW, which, as owner, made the state forest available free of charge.

“We are very happy to allow the people of Meckenbeur to use this attractive path to keep fit,” emphasized forest district manager Raimund Detzel during the joint visit. On the part of the municipal administration, the head of the construction authority, Elmar Skurka, and the head of public relations, Lisa Heinemann, coordinated the project.

The construction yard put up the new signs, refinished the wooden frame for the information board, and restored the wooden shed. The team also regularly maintains the exercise track as one of four recreational facilities and more than 30 playgrounds in the community.
