The Huawei Watch Fit 2 in the Nau.ch test: fitness in a big way

The Watch Fit 2 almost drowned out among all the new wearables from Huawei. The new fitness tracker has it all for its attractive price.

the essentials in brief

  • The Watch Fit 2 is Huawei’s latest fitness tracker with a large screen.
  • Especially for its quite reasonable price, the watch offers great performance.
  • However, this Huawei watch also has its quirks, especially with the software.

Huawei introduced a slew of new wearables a few weeks ago, including the Watch Fit 2. It’s the first real iteration of the fitness tracker since it launched in 2020. There’s a bigger screen, a speaker and microphone, and Harmony OS. .

Obviously, this smartwatch doesn’t address the same luxury segment as the Watch GT 3 Pro, which is also new. The tested “Active” model with a polymer case and silicone strap is just a budget call. But the watch is particularly light and surprisingly comfortable to wear. If you want a little more extravagance, you have to resort to the more expensive “Classic” or “Elegant” versions.

Harmony OS: Huawei’s software is flawed

As with the tested Watch GT 3 Pro, there is one thing above all to criticize about the Fit 2. For pairing, the latest version of the health app must be installed on the mobile phone, which is not available in the Play Store . The selection of third-party apps is very modest, some phone notifications don’t sync properly.

These are the same issues that I already listed in the GT 3 Pro review. Hopefully these will be fixed in the future. Otherwise, Harmony OS is doing quite well as a portable operating system. Here, too, operation is intuitive and child’s play.

The watch is controlled via touch inputs and the single button on the side, very simple. Once put into operation, the Watch Fit 2 also offers numerous functions.

With the Huawei Watch Fit 2, the name says it all

In fact, it’s less of a smartwatch than a fitness tracker. Above all, health data and a series of workouts can be recorded and analyzed. Huawei says the watch recognizes 97 different sports, so there’s something for everyone.

But Watch Fit 2 can also monitor other parameters, such as heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, and stress. Due to its low weight, this wearable on the wrist does not bother you in the least, whether you are playing sports or sleeping. Therefore, it is a perfect companion for sporty (or at least health-conscious) everyday life.

The hardware is convincing across the board.

By the way, there is a really balanced package for the money. The screen in particular draws attention. It has grown compared to its predecessor and now measures 1.74 inches diagonally.

This is much larger than most portable devices and really handy in everyday life. There’s also enough brightness and sharpness, making the display a real feast for the eyes.

With the built-in battery, Huawei promises an autonomy of 7 to 10 days, depending on use. But I’ve never spent a whole week with the screen always on and continuous tracking. If you are a bit more frugal, you can certainly achieve the promised runtime. Either way, several days without charging is more than enough for battery life.

The only deduction in terms of hardware is the watch strap. The tested model is based on a practical but patented connection to the watch. Therefore, standard watch straps cannot be used. The Watch Fit 2 has a microphone and speaker, allowing you to listen to music or make calls via Bluetooth.

The Huawei Watch Fit 2: a solid package

With the Watch Fit 2, Huawei really offers solid performance, especially for the price. The RRP for the “Active” model is CHF 149. While not cheap, this wearable device offers much more than traditional wristband-style fitness trackers.

If Huawei resolves the aforementioned software issues soon, the Watch Fit 2 would be a strong contender for the wearable with the best price-performance ratio. However, the total number of points is not given for that long. But if you can live with the outages, you can look forward to a great fitness tracker with a great screen.
