Those over 60 take the fitness test every day in Verl

Verl (sib) – To home or not home? That’s a question that plagued some of the participants in the Everyday Fitness Test. One of them is pronounced this Monday when the city, the district sports association and TV Verl put the physical fitness of people over 60 to the test.

Strength, endurance, dexterity and agility

There are six exercises in which the approximately 50 participants in the event try their luck. The daily fitness test, developed in the US, rates how well seniors can perform in 15 minutes.

In the strength, endurance, dexterity and agility categories, they run around a traffic cone as fast as possible. You lift a light dumbbell, stand up as many times as you can in 30 seconds.

“It’s not about superior performance”

They lift their knees and see how close the tips of their fingers and toes meet. “It’s not about superior performance,” says Margret Eberl of the district sports association. She prepares those over 60 to know what to expect in the next 15 minutes.

The goal is not the Olympics. But a realistic evaluation of their own performance. With movements that occur constantly in everyday life and must remain feasible for as long as possible. Skills that ultimately represent independence.

A forecast for future self-employment

Because if you are weak in terms of coordination, you could have problems in everyday life and, in the worst case, at some point you would no longer be able to organize your own daily life.

Based on the results, there is therefore a prognosis of independence in old age for each participant. Based on a graphically displayed statistic, they are assigned to their age group.

An exercise for each little thing

Some participants also agree to help Matthias Haeder. The 33-year-old works for the city of Verl in the city’s education, sports, culture and marketing department. There he is responsible for sports promotion.

Against this background, the FC Gütersloh footballer is currently working with the sports university in Cologne to design a training manual that aims to counter every problem and every weakness with an exercise.
