  • On average, 75-year-olds pay 81 percent more for motor vehicle liability insurance than 50-year-olds.

Auto insurance premiums increase with age. Example calculations for all motor vehicle insurance rates on CHECK24 show that vehicle owners have to pay more for their insurance as they get older, with the same rate characteristics. On average, 65-year-olds already pay 17 percent more for motor vehicle liability insurance than 50-year-olds. Those aged 75 pay 81 percent more and those aged 85 even two and a half times more (+155 percent).1)

Rising auto insurance premiums in old age are only made visible through sample calculations with constant discounts without claims. The contribution is usually lower for older people, since insurers grant significant discounts for many years without accidents that younger people do not reach. Other features, e.g. B. at lower mileage, reduce contributions.

“Seniors should definitely compare different rates, as supplements by age differ significantly depending on car insurance”says Dr. Rainer Klipp, Managing Director of Motor Vehicle Insurance at CHECK24. “At best, 75-year-old policyholders pay about 26 percent more for their liability protection than 50-year-olds, at the most expensive, car insurance costs 140 percent more” .
