Disability Insurance: Type 1 Diabetic Insurance Coverage | Stiftung Warentest

Non-smoking rate between 18 and 50 years old

It is estimated that around 400,000 patients with type 1 diabetes live in Germany. Those with this diagnosis are often turned down by disability insurers. With Mylife, patients have the opportunity to insure themselves against the financial consequences of incapacity for work. The offer of MyLife Lebensversicherung AG (myLife Diabetes-BU) has been available since April 2020. It is available online and is aimed at non-smokers between the ages of 18 and 50. The offer is only valid for people with type 1 diabetes. Anyone suffering from type 2 diabetes will not receive any offer from Mylife.

Advice: You will find a great comparison of work disability insurance at test.de.

Insurance coverage is not cheap

Protection is not cheap. Example: A 30-year-old driver who signs a contract until he is 67 years old pays about 245 euros per month for a monthly pension of 2,000 euros.

Higher pension with regular check-ups

The agreed pension may be higher in the case of benefits if the insured undergoes an annual medical check-up with a diabetologist. The result of the control does not influence the right to this benefit, so there is no new health control. This benefit, which is paid in addition to the agreed pension, in Mylife is called “prevention pension”. It is 30 per cent of the guaranteed pension in the first two years of insurance and may be lower thereafter if the annual check is not carried out.

Conclusion: A recommended offer

The conclusion is short and positive: Mylife’s offer is recommendable and the contract conditions are good.
