Many people now go on vacation. Insurance companies offer solutions in case of damage. But when it comes to Corona, you have to take a closer look.
It was already full on Friday on Autobahn 3 to Holland. The Easter holidays begin and many families go on vacation. If you are also planning a trip in the next few days, you can protect yourself against some risks with insurance. Especially when it comes to Corona, you should look carefully at the contract documents.
The Federal Association of German Insurance Merchants (BVK) advises travelers to take out international health insurance. Because normal health insurance only pays up to the legal amount. Treatment costs abroad could quickly become expensive. Insurance premiums range between 10 and 20 euros. However, Ingo Aulbach, spokesperson for the BVK district of Oberhausen, advises a careful insurance check regarding the risk of corona virus infection: “In times of Corona, you should check before the trip whether the selected fare offers insurance coverage, if for the respective country of travel there is still a travel warning.” You should also clarify in advance whether the costs of treatment for coronary heart disease are covered.
Trip cancellation and personal liability insurance
The risk of infection by the virus is currently high. Trip cancellation insurance covers expenses that may arise in the event of cancellation. However, Aulbach also recommends carefully checking whether the insurance company will cover the costs in the event of a positive corona test. What cannot be assured in any case are resignations for fear of a corona infection in a hotspot area or the expansion of the Ukraine war.
Families are also advised to take out personal liability insurance to cover damage caused by children. Aulbach warns against acknowledging liability in the event of damage or paying for damage directly from the holiday budget. Both would deprive the insurer of the opportunity to verify whether there is a justified claim for damages. Baggage insurance can be useful if you have a lot of luggage. But if you don’t have much with you, you can do without it, says Aulbach. Some home insurance policies even offer reduced protection.
