It is a small house on four wheels. But who really intervenes when thieves break into the mobile home and steal tablets and valuables, for example?

Hamburg (dpa/tmn) – Anyone who goes on holiday in a motorhome has a lot on board. But how do you actually insure mobile household effects, from luggage to tablets to bicycles? In fact, there are special policies for this. They are called, for example, inventory insurance or content insurance.

Before hiring a policy of this type, you must first call your home contents insurance, informs the Association of Insured Persons (BdV); in some cases this also offers limited insurance coverage for the items you carry.

All of which are insured.

When choosing contents insurance, it is worth taking a look at the details of the contract, especially regarding the question: What is insured? Basic products, valuables up to a certain amount, clothing and electronics are also usually insured, as are bicycles. But does this also apply to other sports teams? And the awning? Depending on the rate, this is also covered.

Most of the items listed are protected against damage, loss or destruction, including fire, explosion and storm, but also against theft and vandalism.

Sum insured must match

It’s important: As with household goods insurance for the apartment, you need to make sure that the amount of the sum insured roughly matches the value of the items in the mobile home. And you should read where the insurance coverage applies. Is it possible that it only applies in a limited way to overnight stays in public car parks?

Contents insurance costs between a good 50 and 250 euros, depending on the sum insured and the scope of the policy. Incidentally, the policies do not cover damage to permanently installed parts. That would be a case of full insurance.
