Graz / Vienna (OTS) – Merkur Versicherung is making a seven-figure investment in Benu, the funeral home that operates throughout Austria. Since 2017, the young company has specialized in modern services in the areas of funerals and funeral planning. With this strategic partnership, the Merkur Group is now positioning itself even more strongly as a comprehensive personal insurance company. With the financing, Benu will further accelerate its growth and expand the network of locations.

Proper digitization means: not only breaking new ground, but also responding to the needs of tomorrow’s customers. Merkur Versicherung has already taken a significant step in this direction with the founding of its own start-up in 2020. This not only established an internal digital think tank, but the insurance group has become a center for science, innovation and entrepreneurship. With Benu there is now a strategic partner to develop innovative and customer-oriented funeral arrangements.

“This future-proof partnership brings together what sets us apart as Merkur: comprehensive insurance that takes into account all phases of life. And that also includes end-of-life services,” explains Markus Zahrnhofer, member of the board of directors of the Merkur Versicherung. “As personal insurance we are expanding our product portfolio, which ranges from health insurance for the youngest to death insurance. For us, the focus is on an ecosystem that is completely geared towards the personal needs of our customers and thinks outside the box.”

Zwtl.: Expansion throughout Austria

With the seven-figure investment in Benu, Merkur Versicherung not only supports pioneering work that has so far remained under the digital radar. It enables the company to expand throughout Austria. Because with its offer, the funeral home has not only stood up to the ravages of time, but has also triggered a long-awaited development in the industry. The 40-strong team now organizes more than 120 funerals a month and also does advance planning, making financial and material provisions for funerals during your lifetime. In addition to digital, Benu also has personal advice at three concept stores in Vienna.

“Thanks to the investment from Merkur Versicherung, our chosen expansion path will be accelerated. In just a few months, customers from Linz, Graz and Klagenfurt will also be able to benefit from personalized advice at the new local branches”, explains Alexander Burtscher, Managing Director of Benu.

Zwtl.: Innovative product in funeral planning

Merkur and Benu plan to develop a modern funeral plan together. Simple premium calculation based on transparent funeral costs should make it easier than ever for clients to anticipate the event of death. As an Austrian funeral home, Benu guarantees a consistently high quality at all locations.

Stefan Atz, CEO of Benu: “Together with Merkur Versicherung as a partner, we are creating an innovative funeral insurance product. Based on the strengths of the most traditional insurance company and the most modern funeral home in Austria, the focus is on the customer Together we can not only guarantee financial security, but also ensure that the funeral service is processed at the same level throughout Austria.”
