Vema Brokers: Best Comprehensive Employee Health Insurance Providers

August 2, 2022: According to the current quality survey of the brokerage cooperative, Hallesche is the favorite of the partner companies in the new comprehensive health business for employees. It is followed by the Barmenia and the Signal Iduna. The Alte Oldenburger won the quality rating, in which product quality, application and claim processing as well as accessibility were rated, ahead of the SDK and Universa.

In recent weeks, Vema Versicherungsmakler Genossenschaft eG has conducted a quality survey of product providers in the area of comprehensive health insurance among its almost 4,200 member companies.

Among other things, the surveyed insurance intermediaries were asked to name the three providers most used in new business. As part of the survey, a total of 632 responses were received for the white-collar target group.

Hallesche defends the first position

In the ranking of the most used providers, Hallesche Krankenversicherung aG secured the top position with almost a sixth place. In a tight race for silver, Barmenia Krankenversicherung AG prevailed over Signal Iduna Krankenversicherung AG by six votes. Roughly every ninth respondent voted for both.

Fourth place went to Hansemerkur Krankenversicherung AG, which received around one in eleven votes. They are followed by Alte Oldenburger Krankenversicherung AG, Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG, Arag Krankenversicherungs-AG and Universa Krankenversicherung AG with shares of seven to five percent.

Continentale Krankenversicherung AG and Süddeutsche Krankenversicherung AG (SDK) are tied for ninth place with just under five percent.

Compared to the last quality poll, Barmenia overtook Signal Iduna and Hansemerkur to second place behind Halleschen, who was again in the lead. The Arag lost three and the Continentale lost two positions. The SDK has recently entered the top ten.

Old Oldenburg gains quality rating

As part of the survey, insurance intermediaries were also asked to rate various aspects of the service (school rating scale). These included product quality, application processing and policy, service processing, and accessibility. All four segments were equally weighted in the quality rating.

Compared to the ranking according to the most frequent use, the quality ranking (mean values of the intermediate grades) shows some differences, some of which are considerable. The Alte Oldenburger (position five for new businesses) secured first place (average value: 1.42).

The company fared better in three respects, especially in terms of policy and availability. In terms of product quality, it only managed third place despite a significantly above-average rating.

SDK before Universa and Barmenia

On this last criterion, SDK, which ranked only ninth in terms of new business, kept the competition at arm’s length. Second place was awarded to processing applications and benefits, and third place to accessibility (overall score: 1.49).

Universa (1.65), in eighth place in terms of new business, secured third place in the quality rating with a minimal advantage over Barmenia (1.66). In terms of policy and behavior in the event of an accident, both tied for third and fourth place respectively.

The gap with the leading company is approximately 0.3 rating points in each case. At best, the two players finished second, Universa for product quality and Barmenia for accessibility.

Hallesche and Signal Iduna only ran more

The intermediaries interviewed place Hallesche at the top of the list of new businesses in sixth place (1.73) in terms of quality. In particular, application and benefit processing was rated only average.

The Signal Iduna is even only in the seventh position in the quality ranking. While product quality and availability were rated at least average, it was only good enough for third place in terms of policy and complaint behavior.

Available data provides no background on the huge differences between new business and quality rankings.
