With the new menu line “The Green Choice”, Compass Group wants to make its guests aware of vegetarian and vegan nutrition.
Less and less meat is eaten in Switzerland, while plant-based foods are in high demand. Corporate caterer Compass Group has also been committed to the responsible consumption and handling of meat for years. Promoting a plant-based diet is an important part of the company’s overall sustainability strategy, committed to protecting the environment and the well-being of its guests.
The new menu line “The Green Choice” includes a wide range of sustainable plant-based dishes. Combined with its introduction, Compass Group focuses on measures in favor of guests and the environment.
Vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians
The concept of “Plant-Based Foods” developed in 2020, which is adapted to the nutrition of vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians, will be implemented. The concept underlines the environmental benefits and raises public awareness of plant-based protein sources as an alternative to meat consumption. Throughout the year you will find a varied offer of vegetarian or vegan menus in the Compass Group restaurants.
Stephan Widmer, Head Chef at Compass Group (Switzerland) AG, explains: “Our company does not aim to impose vegetarian alternatives on guests or abolish meat options. Instead, we want to invite our guests to discover a world without meat and encourage them to venture into a meatless diet from time to time.”
In line with the sustainability strategy
In 2021, 34% of the nine million dishes served by the company in Switzerland each year were vegetarian or vegan. By 2022, Compass Group would like to achieve a share of at least 41 percent, in particular through the introduction of “The Green Choice” menu line. This objective is based on two pillars: to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to offer guests and clients healthy and balanced menus.
“The Green Choice” also marks a milestone with regard to the implementation of the company’s sustainable development goals. This applies in particular to the targets of SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production), SDG 13 (Climate protection measures) and SDG 14 (Life below water). These are three of the five objectives to which Compass Group is committed. As one of the leading companies in the field of corporate catering and as the first supplier to the industry, it has also committed to becoming CO2 neutral by 2050. The focus on vegetarian dishes contributes significantly to this goal. (htr/nde)
