Live better: you can buy 4 especially cheap healthy foods

Prices in supermarkets seem to be rising steadily at the moment. This puts undue pressure on the family budget of many consumers. If you still want to eat healthy, you need to think carefully about what foods are still affordable. We searched a bit and found four foods that are still cheap and healthy.

Carrots: healthy all-rounder

Carrots are high in fiber, low in calories, and high in beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A after consumption. Vitamin A, for example, is important for eye health and immune system function.

A kilo of carrots costs less than 1.50 euros in the supermarket and can be used in many ways. Of course, you can just eat a carrot as a healthy snack and save a lot of calories. But you could also conjure up a delicious carrot soup. A freshly made carrot soup with ginger and potatoes costs less than a euro per person and makes everyone’s eyes light up at the table.

Beet – cheap tuber

You can also save a lot of money on your main course if you buy seasonally and, for example, use beets in the winter. In addition to vitamins A, B1, B2, B6; C and E also folic acid and therefore an ideal combination of active ingredients to support the immune system.

A kilo of beetroot costs around two euros in the supermarket and is ideal for cooking a delicious borscht. In the Russian national dish, cheap soup meat is cooked in addition to beets, so a stuffed dish can cost less than two euros.

Potatoes: perfect supplier of potassium

Potatoes contain carbohydrates, proteins, potassium, magnesium, iron and vitamins B1, B2 and C, making them a healthy source of energy with few calories. The tubers have a long shelf life, so feel free to purchase larger quantities.

A bag with two kilos of potatoes usually costs less than one euro. So if you use it to conjure up a potato gratin, the cream and cheese are the much more expensive components. It’s even cheaper if you make hash browns with onions and a little bacon, which is a complete meal and costs less than a dollar a serving.

Potato gratin is very easy.

Onions: budget SUVs

Speaking of onions: this plant is also packed with B vitamins and also contains vitamin C, potassium, and selenium. Onions are an essential part of many dishes and are even the star of onion soup or onion tart. A net with a kilo and a half of onions is now available at the discount store for about 50 cents. So you have an absolutely healthy, very hearty, and at the same time really inexpensive multi-purpose weapon in the kitchen.
