Snack for the office: That’s why we no longer cut lettuce, but roll it up

In Korean barbecue, there is a long tradition of wrapping meat and side dishes such as kimchi or vegetables in a lettuce leaf.

But for this delicious snack you don’t need to travel to South Korea or spend a lot of money at the restaurant. Lettuce wraps are a light snack for the office, for dinner or just between meals.

With little effort, you can create your healthy salad wrap according to your taste.

How to prepare the ingredients

As a base you need iceberg lettuce or lettuce. It is important that the lettuce has relatively large leaves so that you can easily roll up the contents later. A leaf of lettuce later corresponds to a wrapper.

You can choose the filling you want, as an example of a spring vegetarian salad wrap, the following ingredients are suitable:

  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce
  • about 200 g of tofu
  • a handful of radishes
  • 2 carrots
  • half cucumber
  • half a radish
  • 4 cloves of garlic

For the dressing:

  • 6 tablespoons sweet and sour sauce
  • 200ml apple cider vinegar
  • 200ml of water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons of agave syrup

The recipe is designed for a whole head of iceberg lettuce. If you want less or more salad rolls, you can adjust the quantities accordingly.

After you have washed and peeled the vegetables, cut them into thin, thin sticks.

Then, mix the water, vinegar, salt and agave syrup in a bowl, add the vegetable sticks and let them marinate for about 30 minutes.

After you have carefully removed the individual lettuce leaves from the head, wash and dry them. Be careful not to tear the sheets so you can better shape the rolls later.

Squeeze the moisture out of the tofu, cut it into strips and fry in oil until nice and crisp. Now cut it into small sticks as well.

Finally, all you have to do is sauté the garlic over low to medium heat. Be careful not to brown it too quickly or it may taste bitter.

How to roll your lettuce wraps

After draining the water with vinegar, all the ingredients will be ready. Take a lettuce leaf and cover it with the vegetables, tofu and a little garlic. Then you give a little of the sweet and sour sauce on top.

Now the fun part begins: fold the sides of the lettuce leaf and roll it up like a wrap. Your delicious spring snack is ready.

If winding the first few turns is still a bit tricky, don’t give up. After a while you will surely get the hang of it.

If rolling is too difficult for you or you have a particularly large lettuce leaf, you can also use this trick to fold the wrap.
